David Young . . . Ready to Serve

A businessman for over 20 years, David Young knows how to work hard, manage people and money, set goals and priorities, and provide quality service to satisfied customers.

As a Buncombe County Commissioner for fifteen years, David Young has taken a leadership role in writing and managing the budget for North Carolina's seventh largest county that now totals over $245 million per year.  He is also a leader in educating our children, providing access to health care, and building a strong economy through economic development and job growth.

David's years of local government experience give him a unique understanding of the work done by the North Carolina Local Government Commission, chaired by the State Treasurer, to ensure the financial integrity of city and county governments.

On the UNC Board of Governors, David currently serves as vice chair on the Budget and Finance Committee to help build a strong system of higher education to prepare North Carolinians for the 21 st century.

As a businessman, elected official, and education leader, David has a solid record of management experience.  He understands the power and responsibilities of the Office of State Treasurer to:

• wisely manage the state's financial resources
• maintain North Carolina's AAA bond rating
• honor the state's commitments to its current and retired state employees
• use the resources of the state to create opportunities in education, health care, and economic development
